"Dezrinit" for children: instructions for use

In the treatment of allergic rhinitis, local hormonal drugs have long been used, which have worked well and help to quickly eliminate nasal congestion, itching, sneezing and an inflammatory reaction. One of them is Dezrinit from Teva. It is often prescribed to adults for both allergic rhinitis and sinusitis or polyposis, but in childhood they are used with caution and only as directed by a doctor.

Composition and dosage form

"Dezrinit" is presented in pharmacy chains by only one form of release. This is a metered-dose spray to be sprayed into the nasal cavity. It is sold in polyethylene bottles equipped with a dispensing system. The solution itself is a whitish suspension, the main ingredient of which is called mometasone furoate. Its amount in one spray dose is 50 mcg.

One bottle of "Dezrinit" can contain 60 or 140 doses. In addition to the active substance, the drug also contains glycerol, benzalkonium chloride, sterile water, sodium citrate and other compounds noted on the package. These ingredients provide the drug ease of spraying and long-term storage.

Operating principle

The mometasone furoate present in the spray is a synthetic glucocorticoid hormone that is used topically. Its main medicinal effects are anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory. Doses of this substance are selected in such a way that the hormone eliminated the inflammatory and allergic reaction, but did not provoke systemic effects.

Once in the patient's body, mometasone begins to inhibit the release of substances called inflammatory mediators. It interferes with the movement of macrophages, reduces the production of exudate, and helps to reduce infiltration.

Such effects not only promote rapid elimination of inflammation, but also help reduce allergy symptoms of all types. The presence of glycerol in the suspension protects the mucous membrane from drying out and improves the recovery of epithelial cells.

Indications

In childhood, "Dezrinit" is used mainly with allergic rhinitis... The spray is prescribed for both year-round and seasonal forms of such a cold. If the child is over 12 years old, then the spray can be included in the complex of treatment of chronic and acute sinusitis. In addition, during adolescence, the spray can also be used prophylactically to prevent the development of severe or moderate seasonal rhinitis of an allergic nature. Many doctors prescribe it for adenoids.

At what age is it prescribed?

Treatment with "Dezrinit" is allowed not earlier than 2 years of age. If a runny nose has developed in a younger child, non-hormonal agents are selected for him, which are permissible to use at an early age.

Contraindications

The spray is not prescribed for small patients who have hypersensitivity to any ingredient in "Dezrinit". The medication can be harmful if the child has recently had an injury or surgery in the nose. It is permissible for such children to spray the medicine only after complete healing.

Caution in the use of the spray is needed for patients with active fungal, bacterial or tuberculosis infection of the respiratory tract.

Medical supervision is also required in the treatment of severe viral pathologies. If the child has local lesions of the nasopharynx, the question of using "Dezrinit" must be solved individually.

Side effects

During therapy, children may experience negative reactions such as headache, redness of the mucous membrane, sneezing or bleeding from the vessels of the nose. Occasionally, the spray provokes a burning sensation, pharyngitis, bronchospasm, a change in taste or smell, an allergic rash and other negative symptoms. With too long use of "Dezrinit", it is possible that the nasopharynx is affected by fungi, the development of glaucoma, growth retardation, sleep problems, and so on. The occurrence of any side effects requires medical advice.

How to use?

"Desrinitis" should be applied exclusively to the nose. To perform inhalation with a medicine, a special nozzle on the bottle is used, which helps to evenly spray the medicine on the mucous membrane. Before the first use, the dosing device is "calibrated" according to the manufacturer's instructions in the enclosed instructions. It requires you to press the nozzle about 10 times until splashes begin to come out of it. Only then can you start treatment.

If there was a break in the application of "Dezrinit" for at least 2 weeks, then before resuming the treatment, you must also press the dosing device twice until the suspension begins to release into the air.

For proper operation of the dispensing system, it is important to regularly clean the nozzle by rinsing the tip and cap with warm water. After each cleaning it is also necessary to perform a “calibration” with two clicks.

Before each irrigation, the bottle should be shaken vigorously so that the components of the suspension are mixed. Next, the drug is injected alternately into each nasal passage, tilting the head. The dosage is determined by the indications and the age of the little patient.

  • If a child under 11 years of age is diagnosed with an allergic rhinitis, a single dose is one inhalation in each nostril, that is, for one application, the patient will receive 100 mcg of mometasone. This dosage is at the same time daily, since the spray is used only once a day.
  • If allergens have caused rhinitis in a child 12 years of age or older, the remedy is also used once a day, but two sprays into each nasal passage so that the teenager receives only 200 mcg of the active ingredient. As soon as the therapeutic effect of the hormone becomes noticeable (this usually happens after 12 hours), the dose can be reduced to 100 mcg per day. If the effect when using 200 mcg per day is insufficient, then the doctor may increase the daily dose to 300-400 mcg.
  • If a teenager has developed rhinosinusitis, but the course is not severe, "Dezrinit" is used at a dose of 400 mcg per day. The medicine is used twice, 2 injections into each nostril. If the spray is prescribed for acute sinusitis or other sinusitis, then treatment begins with the same dose, but if the symptoms persist, the doctor can increase the daily dosage of the hormone to 800 mcg, and when the disease subsides, gradually reduce it.

The duration of treatment is also set individually by the doctor. For some children it is enough to spray "Dezrinit" for 1-2 weeks, while others need such a medicine for several months. The course of therapy is determined by both the diagnosis and the response of the patient's body to the hormonal drug.

Overdose

If you accidentally exceed the dosage of "Dezrinit" once or several times, this usually does not affect the child's condition in any way, since mometasone is absorbed in very small quantities. Only a systematic overdose or joint use with other drugs from the glucocorticosteroid group can cause harm. In such a situation, the function of the adrenal glands will be inhibited.

Terms of sale and storage

You can buy "Dezrinit" in pharmacies only with a prescription from a pediatrician, ENT or other doctor. On average, the price of one bottle with 140 doses of the hormone is 370 rubles. It is permissible to store the drug at home at room temperature, safely hiding the package from children. The shelf life of the sealed medicine is 2 years, but after the first use, the medicine can be stored for only 1 month.

Reviews

On the use of "Dezrinit" in children, you can find mostly positive reviews, in which the drug is called safe and effective. According to mothers and doctors, such a spray helps with allergies, quickly relieves the condition of patients with rhinitis and inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. The cost of the medication is called acceptable, and side effects when using it are rarely noted.

Analogs

The most famous drug, which also contains mometasone and is produced in the form of a spray, therefore can fully replace Dezrinit, is Nasonex. This drug from Belgium is in demand for allergic rhinitis, is sold by prescription, can be used in children from two years of age, but it costs much more.

If mom is interested in cheaper analogs, then instead of Nasonex and Dezrinit, you can use Nosefrin and Momat Rino sprays.
