Dolphin for children: instructions for use

The device called "Dolphin" is in demand in the practice of ENT doctors and is often recommended for patients of all age groups both for the treatment of inflammatory processes in the nasopharynx and for their prevention. The manufacturer offers a whole line of products, which include products for children, for allergy sufferers and for adults.

Release form

Dolphin was created more than 15 years ago and is a patented device for rinsing the nasal cavity. It includes a bottle with a medical solution, inside of which there is a tube with a special nozzle attached to the cap. Since the bottle itself is soft, and the nozzle is able to compensate for excess pressure, it is possible to influence the flow of solution, so that you can create the most comfortable rinsing procedure for a particular patient.

The Dolphin set, which is prescribed for children, contains an empty bottle with a capacity of 120 ml and 30 sachets containing one gram of powder. Before use, a portion of one sachet is diluted inside the bottle with boiled water. Additionally, you can purchase an additional 30 sachets of powder, which are sold without a bottle.

The main differences between the complex for adults are the capacity of the bottle (it holds 240 ml of liquid) and the amount of powder in sachets (2 grams each). In addition to the standard packaging with one bottle and 30 sachets, the manufacturer also offers an economy version (it contains only 10 sachets) and an additional set of dilution powder (a box with 30 sachets).

Separately produced "Dolphin" for allergies, which is an analogue of "Dolphin for adults", since the capacity of its bottle is also 240 ml, and one sachet contains 2 g of powder. Such a remedy differs only in composition, due to which it can be used by allergy sufferers. In order not to confuse it with the usual "Dolphin", the manufacturer has placed this drug in a green package.

Composition

The main component of Dolphin solution is rock salt containing sodium, magnesium, sulfate, calcium, chloride and other important elements. In addition, the medicine contains active substances that are obtained from rosehip berries and licorice root.

In addition to the dry extracts of these plants, the powder also includes baking soda, potassium chloride, and iodized edible salt. In case of allergy, Dolphin contains no plant extracts. The composition of this version of the drug contains only crystals of ocean salt, supplemented with baking soda.

Operating principle

  • Rock salt in Dolphin, also called halite, has an antiseptic effect.
  • The substances from rose hips have the ability to strengthen the capillaries in the nose and also stimulate the healing of the mucous membrane.
  • Active compounds derived from licorice have anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anti-allergic properties. They also stimulate local immunity.

During nasal flushing with Dolphin, the nasal mucosa is cleared of bacteria, dust, allergens, viruses and other foreign particles. It helps to reduce the inflammatory and allergic reactions, restores nasal breathing, and reduces the amount of discharge.

Indications

Dolphin can be used:

  • to cleanse the nasal cavity from contamination;
  • for the treatment of acute or chronic infectious rhinitis;
  • for the treatment of atrophic rhinitis;
  • for the prevention of ARVI and influenza;
  • for the treatment of adenoiditis;
  • for the treatment of frontal sinusitis, sinusitis or another type of sinusitis;
  • to facilitate the course of an allergic rhinitis;
  • to prepare the nasal cavity for surgery or any medical manipulation.

At what age is it allowed?

The use of "Dolphin for Children" is possible in patients over 4 years old.

If a child 3 years of age or younger needs treatment for sinusitis, runny nose, or other medical conditions, other drugs that are approved at an early age should be used.

Due to the higher dosage, Dolphin for Adults is used only in children over 14 years of age, like the device shown for allergies (in a green box).

Contraindications

Dolphin washing is prohibited in such cases:

  • if the child has acute otitis media or chronic ear inflammation has worsened;
  • if the baby is hypersensitive to any component of the solution;
  • if neoplasms are found in the patient's nasal cavity;
  • with adenoids of 3 degrees or more;
  • with complete obstruction of the nasal passages;
  • with frequent bleeding from the vessels of the nose.

Side effects

After dissolving Dolphin powder in water, a solution is formed, which with its mineral composition resembles blood plasma, therefore it is safe for the mucous membrane and does not cause any unpleasant sensations, such as tingling, burning or tingling. An allergic reaction to the drug is possible, but very rare.

Instructions for use

Before using the device for the first time, you should open the bottle and wash all its parts with a solution of soda or soapy water, then rinse and dry. Such actions are recommended even after a long break in the use of Dolphin. It should also be borne in mind that one bottle should be used by one person.

It is impossible to use the device with several family members at once.

To make a solution for washing, you need to take warm water (it is brought to a boil, and then cooled to + 34 + 36 degrees) in a volume of 120 ml. Having poured it inside the bottle, open one sachet of powder and pour the contents into the liquid. After tightening the cap, the bottle must be shaken so that the product is completely dissolved, after which you can start rinsing.

The child must carry out the procedure on his own, which is why the age restriction is connected. Before washing, the little patient needs to be explained why and how to do it correctly. The way of using Dolphin is described in detail in the instructions that come with the device.

It provides for the following actions:

  • during the manipulation, the child should bend over the sink, attach the bottle cap to one of the nostrils, take a breath and hold his breath;
  • then he should slightly press on the walls of the container so that the solution evenly fills the nasal passage and comes out through the second nostril;
  • without opening the walls of the bottle, you need to remove the device and start breathing through your mouth;
  • after that, the child needs to blow his nose and do the same for the second half of the nose;
  • alternating rinsing of the nasal passages is carried out until the entire solution from the bottle is consumed;
  • in conclusion, mucus and excess of the drug should be removed from the nasal cavity by placing a bottle compressed with fingers in each nostril, and then unclenching the fingers.

After each washing, the bottle is disassembled, washed thoroughly and left to dry, and then stored in a box or bag. The procedure is carried out 1-2 times a day - in the morning and 20-30 minutes before bedtime.

Sometimes ENT doctors prescribe to gargle the throat with Dolphin. In such cases, having prepared a medicinal solution from a sachet, it is used for rinsing three to four times a day.

Overdose

Exceeding the dose of the solution is impossible, since one sachet contains a powder intended for one rinsing. At the same time, the manufacturer recommends avoiding getting the product in the mouth and swallowing it.

Dolphin's harm is possible only if the device is used incorrectly. For example, if you press the bottle too hard or quickly, the nasal membrane can be injured, and the liquid will enter the Eustachian tube, which can cause eustachitis or inflammation of the middle ear.

Terms of sale

It is very easy to buy Dolphin in a pharmacy, since a prescription is not required for its purchase. The average price of one set for children is 370-420 rubles.

Storage conditions

The flush bottle can be used for a long time. The manufacturer gives a guarantee for it for 24 months from the date of purchase and claims that such a product will last an average of 2 years. The shelf life of the powder in sealed sachets is also 2 years.

It is not recommended to store the prepared solution - the product must be used for the procedure immediately after the powder is dissolved in water.

Reviews

Both parents and doctors respond positively to the use of Dolphin in childhood. The device is called convenient to use and safe, confirming its effectiveness in cases of rhinitis, sinusitis, acute respiratory infections and other diseases.

Its disadvantages include only the high cost and high risk of otitis media.

Analogs

As a substitute for Dolphin, the following nasal rinsing agents can be used:

  • "Aqua Maris"... The basis of such a drug is sea water, which can cleanse and moisturize the nose, as well as help treat runny nose and adenoids. The smallest children are shown "Aqua Maris" in drops, because it can be used from birth, and patients older than a year are prescribed a spray. From the age of three, it is possible to use the Aqua Maris watering can, along with which bags of salt are sold. A diluted solution, like Dolphin, is used to rinse the nasal passages.
  • "Aqualor"... The line of drugs with this name includes several drugs, but it is recommended to rinse the nose only by means with a spray "jet". One of them is the isotonic solution "Aqualor Norm", which can be used even in an infant over 6 months old. In case of nasal congestion and inflammation, lavage is performed with a hypertonic agent with the addition of chamomile and aloe extracts "Aqualor extra forte", prescribed from 2 years of age.
  • "Sialor aqua"... This medicine is available in plastic buffers containing 5 ml of sea water, supplemented with the same volume of regular water. The drug is in demand for a cold, and is also often used to prevent it in children of any age, even in newborns and infants.
