Maxilac for children: instructions for use

The modern drug called "Maxilac" belongs to the group of synbiotics. This is the name of the funds, which simultaneously contain bacteria useful for the intestine (probiotics) and substances that promote their growth (prebiotics). With this combination, they mutually enhance their effects, positively influencing both digestion and metabolic processes.

Release form and composition

"Maxilac" is produced in capsules, which have a beige color and a shell of vegetable gelatin. They are sold in 10 pieces in one pack, packed in one blister. The contents of the capsules are creamy, but darker inclusions are normal.

Each capsule contains over 4.5 billion microorganisms, representing nine different cultures of probiotics. Among them are bifidobacteria longum, breve and bifidum, as well as lactobacilli rhamnosus, casei, helveticus and plantarum. In addition, the capsules contain lactococci lactis and thermophilic streptococci. All microorganisms are freeze-dried and supplemented with 63 mg of oligofructose.

The inactive ingredients of Maxilac are corn starch, titanium dioxide, alginic acid, shellac, locust bean gum and other compounds. Such substances complement bacteria and prebiotic, and with the help of a special technology "Mure" create a shell that is not destroyed by the action of gastric juice.

Separately, the same manufacturer offers a drug called Maxilac Baby. It differs in its dosage form, which is represented by portioned sachets. Inside the bag are microscopic granules containing 1 billion dried microorganisms and 1.43 g of fructooligosaccharides. The only auxiliary ingredient in this product is corn starch. One package contains 10 sachets.

The “Baby” preparation also contains nine strains of beneficial bacteria, but their list is slightly different from the composition of “Maxilac” in capsules. They are represented by three species of bifidobacteria (lactis, longum, and bifidum) and six species of lactobacilli (rhamnosus GG, paracasei, casei, acidophilus, salivarius, and plantarum).

Operating principle

Lactobacilli present in the preparation help in the absorption of lactose and inhibit the growth of harmful microbes. Bifidobacteria also have properties to inhibit pathogenic microflora. In addition, such microorganisms improve parietal digestion. Thanks to the presence of oligofructose, the reproduction of beneficial flora is stimulated, and the functions of the gastrointestinal tract are improved.

The combination of beneficial bacteria with oligofructose / fructooligosaccharides leads to the following positive changes:

  • normalization of the balance of normal intestinal microbial flora;
  • improving digestion;
  • prevention of constipation;
  • assistance in the fight against pathogenic and opportunistic microbes;
  • strengthening immunity;
  • improving skin condition;
  • reducing the risk of diarrhea due to antibiotic use.

Indications

Given the properties of the drug, "Maxilac" and "Maxilac Baby" are prescribed:

  • to normalize the balance of microflora after taking antibacterial, antifungal and other drugs with a negative effect on the gastrointestinal tract;
  • as an auxiliary drug for constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, belching, nausea and other symptoms of dyspepsia;
  • to restore the normal composition of the bacterial flora after intestinal infection;
  • to prevent digestive disorders when moving or changing diet;
  • to strengthen non-specific immunity during the ARVI season;
  • to fill the lack of beneficial bacteria in food, if the child refuses fermented milk products, he has no appetite or his diet is monotonous.

At what age is it prescribed?

Despite the fact that the granules are considered a child form, Maxilac capsules are also used in children. At the same time, it is allowed to give the Baby sachet from the age of 4 months, and the solid form is prescribed for young patients over three years old.

Contraindications

The use of capsules and sachets is prohibited only in case of individual intolerance.

Since there is no lactose in Maxilak and Maxilac Baby, these drugs are not contraindicated in case of lactose deficiency.

Instructions for use

After opening the sachet and pouring the granules into a warm liquid, "Maxilac Baby" is given to the child during feeding once a day. The product can be mixed in milk / milk mixture or water, the temperature of which does not exceed +40 degrees. Babies under 2 years old are prescribed the contents of one sachet per day, and patients over two years old should be given granules from 2 sachets at once.

Capsules "Maxilac" are given to young patients over three years old also once a day. It is best to take such a remedy during one of the meals (the manufacturer recommends drinking the medicine in the evening). A single dose for children is usually one capsule, but taking into account the disease, the dosage can be adjusted by the pediatrician.

For babies under 5 years old or older patients who find it difficult to swallow solid forms of drugs, it is permissible to open the capsule and pour its contents into warm milk or water.

As with the baby granules, the liquid should not be hot, and the child should swallow the drug immediately after mixing.

The duration of taking "Maxilac" should be checked with the doctor, but the minimum period of use is 10 days. If the drug is used for treatment, then it is stopped after the disappearance of painful symptoms. For prophylactic purposes, the remedy is usually prescribed in courses of 1 month. If necessary, such courses are repeated two to three times a year. If "Maxilac" is used to prevent dysbiosis under the influence of drugs, then the symbiotic should be taken as long as the course of treatment lasts.

Terms of sale and storage

"Maxilac", like "Baby", is sold without a prescription because it belongs to dietary supplements. The average price of 10 capsules is 430-450 rubles. You have to pay about the same amount for the package of "Maxilac Baby". Neither granule sachets nor capsules need to be kept in the refrigerator, but can be stored at temperatures up to +25 degrees. Shelf life of "Maxilac" is 2 years, and the drug "Baby" - 18 months.

Reviews

In most reviews about "Maxilac", such a medicine is called effective and safe. Among the main advantages of the Baby sachet are the convenience of use in childhood, the ability to give babies from four months and babies up to 3 years old, as well as a neutral taste, good tolerance and low frequency of intake.

The medicine in capsules is also praised for having to be taken only once a day and having no side effects. The disadvantages of both drugs are usually attributed to their high cost. In addition, there are reviews in which they note the lack of a positive effect after the course of admission.

At the same time, the indications for its administration are the same as for the use of "Maxilac", for example, this probiotic is in great demand during antibiotic therapy courses.
