Trichopolum for children: instructions for use

"Trichopolum" is a medicine capable of affecting various types of protozoa and anaerobic bacteria. Is such a drug prescribed for children? In what cases can it be given to a child and can it harm the child's body?

Release form and composition

Trichopolum comes in several forms.

  • Pills. They are sold in packs of 20, characterized by a round shape, white-yellow color and the presence of a risk, according to which the tablet is divided into halves. The main component of this medication is metronidazole. Each tablet contains 250 mg of it. To make the preparation dense, it contains magnesium stearate, gelatin, starch syrup and potato starch.

  • Solution for injections. It is sold in glass ampoules containing 20 ml of medicine, 10 pieces per pack. Also, the medication is released in polyethylene bottles of 100 ml, one bottle per pack. This solution is yellowish green and transparent. It also includes metronidazole at a dose of 5 mg / 1 ml as the main component, that is, one ampoule contains 100 mg of such a substance, and one bottle contains 500 mg. In addition to it, this form of "Trichopol" contains sterile water, sodium chloride, citric acid and sodium hydrogen phosphate.

In addition, "Trichopol" is also available in the form of vaginal tablets containing 500 mg of metronidazole each. This medicine is used only in adults.

How does it work?

Trichopolum has antibacterial and antiprotozoal activity, that is, such a remedy acts on different types of bacteria and protozoa that provoke infections both in adults and in childhood. Due to its structure, the drug affects the DNA in the cells of pathogens, which disrupts the formation of nucleic acids and ends with the death of microorganisms.

The medication is capable of destroying amoeba, lamblia, bacteroids, fusobacteria, Trichomonas, gardnerella, peptococci and many other microbes and protozoa.

Such a remedy also showed activity against Helicobacter pylori, but Trichopolum does not act on many aerobic bacteria, as well as on fungi, worms and viruses.

Indications

The medication is prescribed:

  • with amebiasis in any form;
  • with trichomoniasis;
  • with giardiasis;
  • with acute infections of the gums, teeth and jaw bones;
  • with infections caused by anaerobic flora: with endocarditis, sepsis, skin infection, pneumonia, and so on;
  • if H. pylory infection is detected;
  • before surgery on the digestive tract or pelvic organs.

At what age is it prescribed?

Trichopolum injections can be prescribed at any age, even to newborns. The tablet form is not used in the treatment of children under 3 years of age. If the child is 2 years old or less, he is prescribed either injections or another remedy with a similar therapeutic effect, which can be used at an early age.

Contraindications

The drug is not used in children:

  • with leukopenia;
  • with liver failure;
  • with severe diseases of the central nervous system;
  • with porphyria;
  • with hypersensitivity to any of the components of "Trichopol".

If a child's kidney function is impaired, the use of the medicine requires the supervision of a doctor.

Side effects

Treatment with "Trichopolom" can provoke headaches, decreased appetite, increased irritability, nausea, skin rash, vomiting, muscle pain and other side effects. If they occur, the child should be examined by a doctor.

Instructions for use

For severe infections, treatment begins with injections, and then switches to a tablet form. Injections are made into a vein, while the solution should be injected slowly. The tablets should be swallowed with food and washed down with water. You can also take the medication after meals.

Doses of "Trichopolum" in injectable form are selected individually. A single dosage of "Trichopolum" in tablets depends on the age of the child and most often it happens like this:

  • patients 3-7 years old are given half a tablet, that is, 125 mg each;
  • children 7-10 years old often need to be given a whole tablet per dose, which corresponds to 250 mg;
  • for a child over 10 years old, the medication is prescribed 1-2 tablets at a time (250-500 mg).

In some cases, the dose is reduced or, on the contrary, increased. The frequency of taking "Trichopolum" is determined by the diagnosis. For example, if a remedy is prescribed for lamblia, then it is given to a patient under 7 years old once a day, and from 7 years old - twice a day. The duration of use also depends on the disease and the age of the child, for example, with amebiasis, the medication is taken for 5 days, with acute gingivitis - 3 days, and with giardiasis - from 3 to 5 days, depending on the single dosage of the medication.

Overdose

If the dose of Trichopolum is too high, it will provoke dizziness, vomiting and other negative effects. To eliminate these symptoms, you should seek medical attention.

Drug interactions

The medication can affect treatment with many other drugs, including anticoagulants, sulfonamides, and other drugs. They are noted in the annotation to the tablets and solution.

Purchase and storage

To buy any of the forms of "Trichopol" in a pharmacy, you need to present a prescription. The average cost of one pack of tablets is 80 rubles. It is recommended to store the medicine at home at a temperature not higher than +25 degrees out of the reach of babies. The shelf life of both the solid form "Trichopol" and the solution for injections is 5 years.

Reviews

About the use of "Trichopolum" in children respond differently. Most reviews call the drug effective and note that it helped get rid of the infection. However, according to moms, the drug has many disadvantages, among which are often mentioned the frequent side effects and the bitter taste of the tablets.

Analogs

Instead of "Trichopol", drugs with the same active ingredient can be used, for example, "Metrogyl", "Metronidazole", "Klion" or "Flagil". If a child has amoebiasis or giardiasis, the doctor may prescribe drugs with a different composition that can act on the causative agents of these diseases, for example, Macmiror, Tinidazol, Nemozol or Dazolic.
