Disposable diapers: what are they for and which ones to choose?

Tight swaddling of newborns is a thing of the past. But diapers as the main attribute of this process will accompany our babies for a long time. The diaper is a rectangle made of fine calico or soft flannel. These are the first clothes for a newborn, and a replacement for a sheet, and even a blanket in the summer heat. The baby needs it in the crib, in the stroller, and in the arms of the mother during feeding. You can't do without it. But along with the usual cloth diapers, modern industry offers new, very convenient and economical disposable.

What are they for?

Disposable baby diapers are capable of retaining any moisture and turning it into a thick gel, just like diapers. They do not need to be washed after use. The use of such material saves busy mothers' time at the wash. They are convenient to use when traveling, visiting a doctor, or shopping.

One-time diapers can replace the napkins that are usually used in the daily hygiene procedures of the baby: air baths, changing the diaper, processing the baby's skin. It can be placed in the stroller while walking. And finally, they are included in the required minimum that every young mother prepares for the hospital and for the discharge of the baby.

Pros and cons

The positive aspects of this product are obvious:

  • disposable diapers will save the mother's time that she can spend on communication with the child, its development;
  • using them, you will be relieved of the constant re-washing of mountains of dirty linen that inevitably accompany all parents;
  • they are irreplaceable when mom and baby are on a trip (train, plane, car), visiting, routine checkups by a pediatrician or being treated in hospitals;
  • the materials from which the diapers are made are hypoallergenic when used correctly.

There are also disadvantages to all disposables.

  • Continuous use of a disposable, despite its apparent convenience, will be very expensive. Sometimes it is easier to do the laundry than to spend the money the family needs.
  • Disposable diapers cannot be used for changing.
  • Constantly using them in caring for a baby is not very good for his skin. In hot weather, they overheat the baby's skin, causing prickly heat, and, as a result, redness and irritation of the skin.

Types and sizes

Before talking about the types and parameters, let's consider their device.

The disposable diaper is a soft and thin multi-layer material. The polyethylene in the bottom layer prevents the liquid from flowing onto the mattress on which the baby lies. The outer layer is composed of cellulose fibers.

By the way, cellulose is a natural material, which means it is hypoallergenic. Between the bottom and top layers there is an absorbent filler that turns any liquid medium into a gel.

You can buy such a miracle in a pharmacy chain, supermarkets and regular stores. They are available in packs, the number of diapers in which varies from 5 to 120 pieces. In pharmacies, you can buy them individually, which is very convenient and not so expensive.

The usual sizes of such products are 40x60, 60x60 and 60x90 cm. Some mothers use large diapers for self-production of absorbent wipes for the daily care of babies in the first year of life. To do this, just cut it into pieces of the size you need.

If you doubt that disposable diapers will work for your baby, do not buy a full package right away. Buy a few to get started and try them out. So you will not spend a lot of money, but you can make sure of the benefits and safety.

The manufactured products may differ not only in parameters, but also in material: the main ones are cellulose, cotton. There are also paper rolls.

In general, a mother herself can decide which ones to take exactly for her child.

In addition to products for newborns and babies, there is also a version for adults. The diapers are convenient when caring for bedridden patients and the elderly, in the postoperative periods, undergoing medical examinations, medical procedures, ultrasound and other procedures.
