Overview of creams and ointments for diaper rash in newborns

Few of the parents of infants and newborns manage to avoid such an unpleasant phenomenon as diaper rash in a child. And not always the reason for the violation of the baby's skin condition lies in the fact that adults violate the rules of caring for the baby. But the question is almost always relevant, what funds should be in the home medicine cabinet to help the baby quickly get rid of redness, cracks and pustules on the skin.

General information about the disease

Not every redness on a newborn's skin should be considered diaper rash. In medicine, diaper rash refers to local inflammation of the skin, which usually occurs as a result of skin irritation with feces, urine, excess moisture, and also with a strong allergic reaction.

Before choosing one or another remedy for the treatment of diaper rash, it is important to understand what type and type of diaper rash the child has, after all, it depends on what exactly means will need to be used.

  • Diaper dermatitis - the most common diaper rash. With it, redness and inflammation of the skin appears in the area of coverage with a diaper or diaper from contact with urea, ammonia, fecal enzymes. Usually located in the groin. Allergic diaper rash is most often located on the buttocks and around the anus. In the folds of the baby's skin, there are fold diaper rash, which is also called intertrigo.
  • In the presence of increased oily skin in the area of inflammation and roughness, they speak of seborrheic eczema.
  • With whitish bloom - about fungal infection.
  • Pustular diaper rash anywhere, complicated by bacterial contamination are called impetigo. Most often they appear in the groin and on the butt.

Treatment rules

Which remedy to use for diaper rash depends on what degree of diaper rash in the child.

  • Mild degree differs in the presence of slight inflammation, without eczema, oozing, without visible damage to the skin.
  • With an average degree the inflammation is bright, red, with erosions.
  • With severe degree lesions are extensive, deep, with cracks, erosions, ulcers, possibly with abscesses.

It is possible to do without consulting a doctor only in case of a mild degree of diaper rash, it is generally treated with practically no cosmetic or medicines. It is enough to wash the child, arrange air baths for him - and there is no trace of diaper rash.

In the treatment of diaper rash of the second degree, when the inflamed skin becomes wet, there is erosion, the use of ointments and creams with a drying effect is indicated. These include all products based on zinc oxide, which will be discussed below.

For diaper rash with a fungal complication, antifungal ointments are used.

For pustules, antibiotic ointments are applied, but only after the treatment of abscesses with aniline dyes, which include brilliant green, blue, "Fukortsin".

It is not recommended to use baby cream in the treatment of diaper rash, no matter how good it is. The fact is that baby creams are very oily in composition. Their task is to moisturize, not dry. To dry it, it is wiser to use a powder, but its use is also limited if the child has cracks, ulcers, eczema.

There is great doubt about the need to use care and medicines for baby skin if it is completely healthy, if there is no diaper rash. The best way to prevent inflammation is to maintain the correct temperature in the room (it should not be hot), not to wrap up the baby in which he sweats, and to change the diaper regularly.

The best remedies

There are many ratings of remedies for diaper rash for children, but reasonable mothers should understand that their purpose is different, and therefore it is not worth comparing antibiotic remedies with zinc-based ointments: initially, these drugs will be different and will be used for different diaper rash. Therefore, we have compiled a detailed description of the funds that are worth paying attention to and that can be included in the home first aid kit.

"Bepanten"

Good quality cream, guaranteed by Swiss and German manufacturers. Excellent for the treatment of mild to moderate diaper rash, as a diaper cream for problem skin.

The main active ingredient is dexpanthenol. It has a local healing effect, improving metabolic processes in damaged or inflamed skin. Penetrating into skin cells, dexpanthenol is rapidly converted into pantothenic acid, which accelerates the regeneration processes.

It is necessary to apply to the place of diaper rash after the child is washed, the skin will be well dried with a towel or soft diaper. If there are weeping ulcers, it is undesirable to use it, since the product has a slight moisturizing effect.

The downside is the price. The tool is quite expensive (from 500 to 800 rubles, depending on the capacity of the tube and the region).

"Dexpanthenol"

The active ingredient of this ointment is also called dexpanthenol. It is produced in Russia, and therefore it is cheaper than Bepanten, although the drugs can be considered analogues in terms of the active substance.

An undoubted plus is a huge selection of packaging forms - there are tubes of 20 grams, there are 30, 40, and there are also 100 grams. Accordingly, the price starts at 80 rubles for a small package, and therefore the cream is available to all segments of the population, regardless of income level.

This ointment is applicable for newborns and older children. No cases of allergy to this agent have been identified.

It can be used for the treatment of mild to moderate diaper rash, as well as for baby care as a diaper cream.

  • For treatment, the cream is applied 2-4 times a day.
  • As a prophylaxis for children with problem skin prone to dryness - before each diaper change.

"Zinc ointment"

Drying agent based on zinc oxide. Helps to rid the baby's skin of excess moisture, dries out foci of wetness, eczema. Indispensable for moderate to severe diaper rash, when the dexpanthenol-based ointments described above cannot cope.

Zinc ointment has anti-inflammatory effect, and zinc oxide even has an effect on some pathogenic bacteria, therefore with moderate and severe diaper rash, it is also prescribed as a means of preventing pyoderma and other complications.

In theory, it can cause an allergic local reaction in infants with delicate skin, but in practice this does not happen often.

The ointment is applied to a clean surface 2-3 times a day until weeping stops and inflammation decreases. Do not combine the product with moisturizing ointments and creams for children. The cost is very affordable, about 50 rubles.

"Levomekol"

A well-known antibacterial topical preparation consisting of methyluracil and chloramphenicol. It is noteworthy that the product does not contain auxiliary components, and therefore each of the active substances has a therapeutic effect. Suitable for the treatment of diaper rash, accompanied by the formation of pustules, wounds, because it not only kills bacteria and E.coli, but also prevents infection. Suitable for moderate to severe diaper rash.

Ointment can be used to lubricate the inflamed area of the skin, or you can make lotions with it - as it is more convenient.

In case of severe diaper rash, it is recommended to pre-lubricate the abscesses with brilliant green or "Fukortsin" to achieve a more pronounced antibacterial effect.

The cost is about 120 rubles.

"Drapolen"

Anti-inflammatory cream with a light moisturizing effect. Does not contain antibiotics. But given that the composition is able to retain moisture, it is undesirable to use such a remedy for weeping eczema, especially in the groin and folds of the baby's skin.

A big and important plus - no addiction, the effect of the application does not decrease even with daily use of the cream. The main active ingredients are cetrimide and benzalkonium chloride. These are antiseptics that complement each other in their action. The cream can be used both for the treatment of light and medium diaper rash, and for their prevention in children prone to dermatological problems.

Cost - from 350 rubles. Better known among mothers as "pink cream".

"Desitin"

Often the drug is called both ointment and cream. But it is produced only in the form of an ointment, which consists of almost half of zinc oxide. In this way, the drug has a drying effect, and therefore can be used for both moderate and mild forms of diaper rash.

In addition to the main active ingredient that helps to dry weeping eczema and ulcers, the ointment contains cod liver oil, which has pronounced healing effect on the skin.

It is also used to prevent diaper rash, especially in children with very sensitive skin. Cod liver oil creates a thin film on the baby's delicate skin, which partially neutralizes the aggressive effects of urea, ammonia and other irritating components of urine and feces.

Cost - from 250 rubles.

"Sudokrem"

A popular and very effective drug related to dermatoprotectors. Has anti-inflammatory action, helps to get rid of excess moisture, disinfects and covers the skin with a protective film, and therefore can be a choice of dual purpose - for treatment and prevention.

The basis of the composition is zinc oxide, besides it there is benzyl benzoate in the composition, which contributes to faster regeneration. Among the additional components can be noted lavender oil, which gives the product not only a pleasant aroma, but also strong anti-inflammatory effect.

It is used for the treatment of mild to moderate diaper rash, as well as for the prevention of such as a cream for babies "under a diaper".

It is recommended to treat the affected skin with hydrogen peroxide before use.

The cost of the drug is from 340 rubles.

"Clotrimazole"

Antifungal drug with the same active substance. For diaper rash in children, it is used in the case of mycosis - attaching fungal microflora to the inflammation.

In other cases, the use of external ointment is not considered appropriate. A cheaper analogue for antifungal action is "Nystatin ointment".

Such a remedy should be prescribed by a doctor, the course of treatment usually does not exceed two weeks. In a newborn, the drug can cause side effects and allergic reactions. The cost of the drug is about 100 rubles.

"Methyluracil ointment"

Despite the fact that the basis of this ointment is methyluracil, which is included in many remedies for the treatment of diaper rash in newborns and infants, it is this ointment at an early age that is undesirable. But you can buy it and leave it in the first-aid kit for future use - it perfectly heals wounds and disinfects the skin, but the drug is not recommended for children in the first year of life.

In the meantime, a tube of ointment is waiting in the wings for children's use, it can be useful for mom and dad - the remedy is used for burns, cuts, diaper rash and dermatitis, abscesses, cracks.

"Purelan"

This drug is obtained by the digestion of sheep wool to the state of medical lanolin. Contains no preservatives or aromatic additives. The composition is completely natural.

Used for the prevention of diaper rash, because lanolin creates a thin, waterproof film, protecting the baby's delicate skin from urine and feces. Manufactured in Switzerland.

Suitable not only for the baby, but also for his mother - protects the nipples during lactation from cracks.

It is absorbed, according to reviews, well, does not leave stains on diapers and baby clothes. Not suitable for the treatment of diaper rash, severity higher than the first. A cheaper analogue is Lanovit. Creams and mousses for baby skin "Sanosan" are similar in action.
