Pepidol for children: instructions for use

"Pepidol" is one of the enterosorbents used for poisoning, dysbiosis, intestinal infections, constipation and food allergies. Especially for small patients, "Pepidol" is produced for children with a lower concentration of the active substance, which makes it possible to give such a remedy even to preschoolers.

Release form

"Pepidol" for children is sold in glass bottles containing 100, 250 or 450 ml of an opaque yellowish or pink liquid. Also on sale there are economy packages containing 2 bottles of 100 ml or 250 ml at once.

In addition, the powder "Pepidol" is separately produced, which is diluted with water before taking. It is sold in 5 gram sachets.

Composition

The drug is based on pectin. In powder, it occupies the entire volume, that is, there are no additional compounds in the composition of such "Pepidol".

The concentration of pectin in the liquid product is 3%, which distinguishes the children's product from Pepidol for adults (it has a 5% concentration). In addition to pectin, the solution contains only water, and there are no preservatives, as well as flavors and dyes.

Operating principle

Pectin in the composition of the preparation is a natural plant compound that has sorption properties. After entering the gastrointestinal tract, it forms a gel mass, which, while moving through the intestines, absorbs toxic compounds and at the same time protects the mucous membrane from damage by hazardous substances.

In addition, pectin helps to destroy pathogens that have entered the digestive tract and caused an infectious disease.

On beneficial microbes that live in the intestines in the norm, "Pepidol" does not affect. On the contrary, it promotes their more active reproduction and can be used instead of probiotics.

Another beneficial property of pectin is the normalization of bowel function.

If children's "Pepidol" is used with constipation, thanks to its ability to restore peristalsis feces, together with toxins, leave the digestive tract faster. If the child has a tendency to diarrhea, then the remedy, on the contrary, will reduce the motor activity of the intestines and will allow nutrients to be better absorbed from food.

Indications

The reason for the use of "Pepidol" in childhood is:

  • intestinal infection caused by pathogenic bacteria;
  • imbalance of the intestinal microflora, which has developed as a result of medication, stress, poor environmental conditions and other factors;
  • digestive disorders due to errors in nutrition and eating disorders;
  • damage to the digestive tract with viruses (the remedy is often prescribed for rotavirus);
  • poisoning with stale and spoiled food;
  • supporting the body during long-term antibiotic treatment or during chemotherapy;
  • activation of the intestines in the postoperative period.

In addition, the agent is included in the complex of treatment of various diseases, for example, allergic reactions, flu or tuberculosis.

It can also be given as a preventive measure if there is a threat of infection by viruses or bacteria.

At what age is it prescribed?

The use of a 3% solution and Pepidol powder diluted to the same concentration is allowed from the age of three. If a younger child needs treatment, then together with the doctor they choose another sorbent that can be given to infants and children 1-2 years old.

Contraindications and side effects

The solution is not used only in case of intolerance to its ingredients. As for side effects, Pepidol usually does not cause any negative reactions, with the exception of rare cases of hypersensitivity to pectin.

Instructions for use

The agent is given 30 minutes before meals, dosing with a teaspoon or dessert spoon. The duration of the course of application, which the manufacturer advises, is 1 month. If the patient's condition has returned to normal earlier, it is recommended to continue taking the drug until the end of this period., but already with a preventive purpose.

In case of poisoning or infection in the first days of the disease, the drug is given to children more often, and as the condition improves, the frequency of administration is reduced. A more accurate scheme should be prescribed by a doctor.

If the child is prescribed a liquid 3% solution, it is carefully collected from the bottle and the stopper is immediately closed. To dilute the powder, take one sachet and 150 ml of boiling water. After pouring water into a container with powder, the product is stirred with a mixer until it becomes a jelly-like homogeneous mass, similar to syrup.

Depending on the reason for use, children's "Pepidol" is given 2-4 times a day in such a single dosage:

  • three year old child - a teaspoon (5 ml);
  • child 4-10 years old - two teaspoons (10 ml);
  • patient 11-14 years old - two dessert spoons (15 ml).

Drug interactions

Since "Pepidol" has a rather pronounced sorption effect, then when such a solution is included in the treatment complex, you should wait some time between using it and taking any medications (at least an hour).

Terms of sale

Since children's "Pepidol" is not a drug, but is only an active supplement, a prescription is not required for its purchase. The price of the product is influenced by the size of the package and the form of release. For example, for one packet of powder you need to pay about 140 rubles, and 100 ml of solution costs an average of 200 rubles.

Storage features

The shelf life of "Pepidol" for children in the form of an aqueous solution is 18 months if the bottle is sealed. An opened bottle (tightly closed) can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 10 days after the first use. Slight foaming or sludge formation during storage is normal.

If the solution has stratified or mold has appeared in it, it is unacceptable to give such a drug to children.

The shelf life of the powder is 2 years. While it is sealed inside the sachet, the product should be kept at a temperature below +25 degrees. However, after dilution with water, such "Pepidol" can be stored no longer than 4 days by placing the liquid in the refrigerator.

Reviews

Most of the reviews about Pepidol for children are positive. In them, parents confirm the effectiveness of such an additive for diarrhea, vomiting and other digestive disorders, and also praise it for its natural basis and the absence of side effects.

Among the minuses, only a short shelf life is usually mentioned.

Analogs

If you need to replace "Pepidol" with a similar agent, the doctor will recommend another enterosorbent, for example, "Smectu" or "Enterosgel"... Most of the drugs of this group can be given even to children under one year old, but only after a doctor's examination, because they have their own contraindications.
