Candide for children

Stomatitis is one of the most common diseases in childhood. Often, its occurrence is provoked by fungi of the genus Candida, therefore, in the treatment of such stomatitis, called thrush, antifungal drugs are in demand. One of them is Candide. Can it be used in children and how to properly treat areas affected by fungi with such a medicine?

Release form and composition

Candide is released in several versions:

  • 1% solution for external treatment;
  • 1% solution for topical use;
  • 1% cream for external treatment;
  • 2% vaginal gel;
  • Powder;
  • Vaginal tablets.

The active ingredient in any of these medicines is clotrimazole. In pediatrics, the solution for topical use is most in demand. It is a viscous transparent liquid without color, containing, in addition to the active ingredient at a dose of 10 mg / 1 g, such excipients as propylene glycol and glycerol. This form of Candida is available in 15 ml polyethylene bottles.

Also, children often use Candide cream, which is a white homogeneous mass placed in aluminum tubes of 20 g. Each gram of such a cream contains 10 mg of clotrimazole, supplemented with white petrolatum, emulsion wax, liquid paraffin and other substances.

Separately, the drug Candide B is produced, also prescribed for fungal skin lesions. As part of such a cream, the glucocorticoid beclamethasone is added to clotrimazole.

Operating principle

Once on the mucous membranes and skin, Candide has an antifungal effect, affecting the formation of membranes of fungal cells, as a result of which the cells of the pathogen are damaged. A small concentration of the drug inhibits the development and growth of fungal cells, and a high concentration destroys them.

The medicine is effective against candida and many other fungi that provoke skin diseases. In addition, Candida has activity against certain microbes (staphylococci, gardnerella, bacteroids, corynebacteria, streptococci).

When applied externally, the agent is practically not absorbed.

The maximum concentration of clotrimazole after skin treatment is noted in the epidermis.

Indications

With a solution of Candide, mucous membranes and skin affected by fungi are treated. Such a remedy is most in demand in pediatrics for candidal stomatitis, which is manifested by the appearance of itchy and painful areas with a white coating in the mouth. This disease is caused by candida when local immunity is weakened, for example, due to antibiotic treatment, gastrointestinal diseases, or immunodeficiency.

Candide in the form of a cream is used:

  • With fungal skin lesions;
  • With mycoses of the feet;
  • With superficial candidiasis;
  • With pityriasis versicolor;
  • With mycoses, which were complicated by a purulent infection;
  • With erythrasma.

At what age are they used?

Treatment with Candide is allowed at any age and is prescribed even to infants.

Contraindications

Any form of Candida is not prescribed if the patient has hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug. Other contraindications to the use of such a medicine are not noted by the manufacturer.

Side effects

An allergic reaction sometimes occurs to the medication. In some children, the use of Candida may cause itching, tingling or burning at the site of treatment. Smearing with cream can cause peeling, swelling or irritation of the skin.

Instructions for use and dosage

To treat the mucous membrane with stomatitis, you need to apply 10-20 drops of Candide solution on a cotton swab, and then lubricate the mouth. Instead of a cotton swab, you can soak a piece of sterile bandage in the solution.

The recommended frequency of oral cavity treatment is two to four times a day.

The mouth should be lubricated after meals and after removing white plaque. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor and is often 5-7 days, but sometimes the course of application is extended to 10 days or longer.

If Candide cream is used, then such a drug is applied to the skin, which should be washed and dried before processing. The agent treats the infected areas twice or three times a day, and when the manifestations of the disease have disappeared, it is recommended to lubricate the skin for some time (the duration of use is determined by the doctor).

Overdose

An exceeded dose of the cream does not have any toxic effect. An overdose of the solution is possible if the child accidentally drinks the drug. This will lead to nausea, abdominal pain, and may impair kidney and liver function.

Interaction with other drugs

If at the same time nystatin, natamycin or amphotericin B preparations are prescribed, then the therapeutic effect of Candida is weakened.

Terms of sale and storage

All forms of Candida are over-the-counter and can be purchased from a pharmacy without problems. The average price of 15 ml of a 1% solution is 260-290 rubles, and a tube of cream is 220-280 rubles. Store the drug at home at room temperature in a place where a small child has no access. The shelf life of the solution and cream is 3 years.

In them, the medicine is praised for its effective action and it is noted that the manifestations of thrush begin to disappear literally after several uses of the medicine.
