What does sperm aggregation mean and when is treatment needed?

A variety of reasons can lead to a decrease in the ability to conceive in men. One of them is pathological sperm aggregation.

What it is?

Sperm aggregation is a pathological condition in which they begin to form among themselves congestion... The presence of such peculiar clots greatly affects a man's ability to conceive a child.

This is due to the fact that sperm in this condition are simply not able to fully move. They cannot reach the egg, which contributes to the impossibility of natural fertilization.

Doctors note that such violations are quite common these days. There are numerous reasons for their development in men.

In some cases, this can lead not only to sexual problems, but also to psychological ones, because procreation is an important biological program inherent in nature.

When aggregated, sperm form clots due to their strong adhesion with various particles of mucus. They can also combine with cellular debris (components of dead cells) and other biological substrates. The male reproductive cells themselves do not die.

A spermogram allows to identify such violations from the norm. This study is becoming more popular and widespread every year. To conduct a laboratory test, biological material is required, which is sperm.

Why does it appear?

The most common cause of this condition is increased mucus production. If its formation significantly exceeds the norm, then this leads to the fact that it begins to accumulate in the body in large quantities.

Excess mucus promotes active adhesion of male germ cells to each other. This situation leads to the appearance of large enough lumps of mucus. The spermatozoa trapped in them begin to lose their properties.

For all men, the composition of the ejaculate is individual: there are more of some substances in it, others - less. In medicine, this is called a physiological feature. However, all clinical parameters are normal and clearly related. If the balance in the chemical composition of the sperm is disturbed, pathologies develop.

Various diseases can lead to excess mucus production in the body. One of the most common are inflammatory diseases of the intimate organs.

The reasons for their development can be various viral or bacterial infections. It often happens that negative symptoms appear after a few months or even years after the infection:

  • Chronic prostatitis - one of the common reasons leading to the development of increased sperm aggregation. Unfortunately, this disease has become more frequent. This pathology can also be accompanied by a decrease in sexual function.
  • Chronic vesiculitis Is another reason for these violations. Very often this pathology proceeds "hidden", without the development of any significant adverse symptoms. The disease is characterized by a violation of the formation of a specific secretion of the prostate gland. This pathology leads to increased mucus formation. This disease is detected already, as a rule, rather late.
  • Excessive mucus production can also be caused by sexually transmitted diseases... Their danger lies in the fact that they do not appear in any way for quite a long time. Untimely treatment of sexually transmitted diseases contributes to the development of pathological aggregation and agglutination of male germ cells.
  • Excessive mucus production is also promoted consequences of various injuries of intimate organs. The testicles and seminiferous tubules are most vulnerable to such effects. If these anatomical areas are damaged, anatomical defects of the genitals can form. Some of them are even accompanied by inflammatory processes. Prolonged inflammation in the reproductive organs contributes to the formation of various pathologies.

Urologists note that the abuse of alcoholic beverages also leads to a change in the chemical properties of the ejaculate. Ethyl alcohol helps to change the main indicators of sperm: it becomes thicker, its viscosity increases.

Under such conditions, sperm begin to lose their biological properties. Male germ cells begin to actively stick together with mucus. This leads to the fact that a married couple has difficulties in conceiving babies.

Smoking is also an addiction that does not improve the performance of spermatogenesis (the process of sperm formation). Chemicals in cigarettes can have a detrimental effect on the epithelium. This contributes to abnormal sperm aggregation.

Even a violation of a healthy lifestyle can lead to the development of this pathological condition. The modern fast pace of life does not at all contribute to the maintenance of men's health.

Fertility indicators (the ability to conceive) are significantly reduced with regular lack of sleep, excessive stress at work, and constant psycho-emotional influences. A man who is under exhausting stress around the clock can pay with his health.

How does it manifest?

If the ejaculate of a man is healthy and there are no pathological changes in it, then this condition is called "normozoospermia". In this case, the probability of natural conception of the baby (in the absence of other aggravating factors) is quite high.

The severity of sperm aggregation is assessed as a plus. They are labeled as (+) as a result of analyzes. The more pluses, the more pronounced the pathological process. So, if the aggregation of sperm is one plus, then these violations are insignificant. Aggregation of 1 plus is also called weak.

This means that with the right therapy, reproductive function is usually restored. A woman in such a pair can become pregnant.

Diagnostics

It is impossible to suspect a slight aggregation of spermatozoa only by external signs. As a rule, small violations cannot be detected only visually. In this case, the man needs to visit the laboratory and take a spermogram.

In some cases, representatives of the stronger sex reveal signs of this pathological condition and independently:

  • The appearance of white lumps or lumps in semen during ejaculation is alarming.
  • The ejaculate itself may change. The sperm becomes more viscous, dense in consistency.

Detection of such clinical signs is an immediate reason for contacting a doctor. In such a situation, an extended set of diagnostics and the mandatory performance of a spermogram are required.

Also, the doctor may recommend passing a general blood and urine test, and, if necessary, bacterial cultures from the urethra. This is necessary so that the specialist can understand in more detail the causes of the violations that have arisen.

When is the treatment carried out?

Therapy for this condition is carried out only after establishing the severity of functional disorders. In this case, the reason that influenced their development is also taken into account.

If some diseases of the reproductive organs of a bacterial nature have led to the formation of pathological aggregation, a course intake of antibacterial agents is prescribed. The choice of the drug is carried out taking into account the microorganisms that caused such violations.

Enough for now agents with a wide spectrum of action are often prescribed... The course of antibiotic therapy may vary in duration. After the course, the effectiveness is necessarily assessed. For this, the doctor prescribes repeated tests of blood, urine and semen analysis.

It is very important not to rush to retest. In some cases, it takes several months to normalize spermatogenesis. During this time, the male body will gradually recover, and its reproductive functions will improve.

Treatment of the resulting functional disorders is often complex. To improve the indicators of men's health, multivitamin complexes are also needed. They allow you to compensate for the necessary vitamins and minerals. Such drugs are usually prescribed for long-term use.

If a man has signs of a reduced and insufficiently effective immune system, then he may need immunostimulating agents. Taking these drugs helps to normalize immunity indicators.

Such drugs are prescribed by an immunologist. One or more courses of such therapy may be required per year. Normalization of immunity will significantly improve the indicators of male health.

In addition to drug therapy, various physiotherapy techniques can be prescribed. As a rule, they complement each other.

Such procedures are prescribed for course treatment. They help to reduce chronic inflammation in the intimate organs, improve local blood flow, and also have a positive effect on male reproductive function.

An important component of normalization of the state is adherence to proper nutrition... It is very important to limit your diet to fast food, as well as foods rich in saturated fat. The use of such products negatively affects the work of the whole body, including the reproductive organs.

Often, men limit their diet to fruits and vegetables. This leads to the fact that they do not receive all the necessary vitamins and minerals. Fresh fruits and berries can help improve reproductive health outcomes. In winter, you can additionally use multivitamin complexes.

In order to improve reproductive function, you should stop smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages. Regular sex life also improves the functioning of the genitals, helping to prevent stagnant changes in the prostate gland.

To improve the viscosity of semen, it is very important for a man to follow a drinking regimen. The best drink is plain water. You must drink at least 1.8-2 liters of water per day.

During treatment, it is better to refuse strong thermal effects. A visit to the sauna and bath should be postponed until the spermogram indicators normalize. Severe overheating is often the cause of the development of reproductive disorders in the male body.

Contraception may be required during treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. Drug therapy is usually given to both partners. If the woman is healthy and the man is sick, then she will receive preventive therapy.

It is important to remember that self-treatment attempts often remain ineffective... The selection of therapy should be done with a doctor. It is better to choose a specialist with sufficient experience. In most cases, sperm aggregation is not a verdict for conception.
