Bactisubtil for children: instructions for use

In the treatment of dysbiosis, drugs are widely used, which contain beneficial microorganisms. One of them can be called Baktisubtil. How does this medicine work on a child's body, at what age is it prescribed and can it cause side effects?

Release form

Bactisubtil is a white hard capsule, inside of which there is a white powder with a gray or yellow tint. One package contains 20 of these capsules.

Composition

The main component of Bactisubtil is the beneficial bacteria Bacillus cereus, in particular, the strain IP5832... When preparing the drug, their spores are freeze-dried and added to each capsule in an amount of 35 mg. Additional components of the drug are kaolin (one capsule contains 100 mg) and calcium carbonate (each capsule contains 25 mg of it). The capsule shell is made from gelatin and titanium dioxide.

Operating principle

The microorganisms that make up Bactisubtil have an antidiarrheal effect. These microbes produce antibacterial compounds that have a very broad spectrum of effects. These substances suppress the activity of both opportunistic and many harmful bacteria. Due to this antimicrobial effect, the medicine also stimulates the restoration of the normal state of the intestinal flora.

Note that the capsules contain spores that are not affected by gastric juice. After entering the intestines, they quickly become vegetative forms and have an antimicrobial effect. In addition, the intake of such bacteria can be combined with treatment with antibiotics or sulfa drugs, since Bactisubtil is resistant to these drugs.

Indications

Most often, the drug is prescribed for dysbiosis or diarrhea caused by intestinal infection. Such a medication is in demand for rotavirus infection, dysentery, salmonellosis, infection with pathogenic E. coli and other bacteria.

It is prescribed for both acute diarrhea and chronic diarrhea caused by various reasons, for example, enterocolitis or colitis. Taking Bactisubtil is also possible for the prevention of dysbiosis, for example, if a child is taking antibiotics or undergoing a course of radio or chemotherapy.

From what age can you apply?

The instructions for use for children attached to the Baktisubtil preparation indicate that capsules are not recommended under the age of 7 years. This is due to the child's ability to swallow this form of medication. However, the medicine can be prescribed by a doctor and younger children, for example, at 2 years old or at 4 years old. For such small patients, the capsules are opened, and the contents are combined with a small amount of cool or slightly warm liquid. At the same time, giving Bactisubtil to children under 7 years old is possible only after consulting a doctor.
