Suspension "Nimulid": instructions for use for children

Nimulide is an anti-inflammatory, non-steroidal drug, so it is often prescribed for severe pain, inflammation, or fever. For children, the Nimulid suspension is the most convenient, because it has a pleasant smell and sweet taste. At what age is it prescribed for babies, is such a medication dangerous for children's health and what dosages are used for children of different ages?

Release form

Nimulide in suspension is a yellowish thick liquid with a pleasant aroma and sweet taste. This form of medication is available in glass brown or plastic bottles of 60 ml of the drug in one bottle. Together with the suspension bottle, the box contains a measuring cup and instructions.

In addition to suspension, Nimulid is also produced in solid form (tablets that dissolve and tablets that are swallowed) and in the form of a gel.

There are no drug options such as syrup, drops, capsules, cream, granules or ampoules for injections.

Composition

The action of the suspension is provided by a substance called nimesulide. In 5 milliliters of the drug, it is contained in a dosage of 50 mg and is supplemented with glycerin, sorbitol, sodium benzoate, xanthan gum and some other ingredients. There are vanilla and mango additives in the medicine for a pleasant smell and taste.

Operating principle

Nimulide has anti-inflammatory effects, as well as pain relief and lowers body temperature if it is elevated. These effects of the suspension are due to the ability of nimesulide to inhibit the substances involved in the inflammatory process, the appearance of pain and temperature reactions. First of all, the drug inhibits an enzyme called cyclooxygenase 2, which leads to a decrease in the production of prostaglandins.

The drunk suspension immediately begins to be absorbed and after about 1.5-2 hours the concentration of its active compound in the patient's blood becomes maximum. It lasts about 12 hours, after which the drug begins to leave the body and is completely excreted in the urine within 24 hours, without accumulating.

Indications

Suspension Nimulide is often prescribed:

  • With a fever.
  • With an inflammatory process in the ligaments, joints or tendons.
  • For pain or inflammation caused by surgery.
  • For toothache.
  • For painful sensations in the muscles, for example, due to injury.
  • With bone fractures.
  • With a headache.
  • For sore throat with sore throat.
  • With otitis media.
  • With sinusitis.

At what age is it assigned to children?

Nimulide in the form of a suspension should not be given to a child under two years old. If a small patient is already 2 years old, the drug is not contraindicated for him, but should be used only after the appointment of a pediatrician.

Nimulide in tablets is not prescribed until the age of 12, and the gel is not used until the age of 7, therefore, only a suspension is shown for children 2-11 years old.

Contraindications

The drug should not be given to a child:

  • With an exacerbation of gastric ulcer.
  • With bleeding from the intestines or stomach wall.
  • With severe renal pathologies.
  • With serious violations of the liver.
  • With intolerance to nimesulide or some other anti-inflammatory drug.
  • With problems with blood clotting.
  • With heart failure.
  • With an excessive level of potassium in the blood.

If the child is sick with diabetes or other serious pathology, the suspension is given only under the supervision of a pediatrician.

Side effects

Among them are:

  • The patient's gastrointestinal tract may react to taking the medication with the appearance of heartburn, nausea, pain in the stomach, and liquefied stools.
  • Rarely, treatment with Nimulid leads to shortness of breath, edema, headache, drowsiness, anemia, decreased urine output, or dizziness.
  • In some children, after taking the suspension, erythema, rash or other allergic reaction appears.

Application and recommended dosage

The suspension is taken three times a day. Before each dose, Nimulid must be shaken so that the components of the drug are evenly distributed in the water. In addition, it is advisable to give the medication to the child after meals so that the suspension less irritates the digestive system. Usually children drink this sweet medicine with plain water.

To calculate a single dosage of a suspension, you need to know the weight of a small patient. For every kilogram of his body weight, 1.5 mg of the active ingredient is required. In addition, you can not multiply, but use the table of single doses, which is in the annotation to the drug and on its box. In such a table, in one column, the weight of the child is indicated, and in the second, a single dosage of the suspension and the frequency of its administration. For example, if a child weighs 11.5 kg, then the table shows the dose of the medicine opposite the weight "10-12 kg", which corresponds to 1.5 ml of suspension at one time.

The maximum permissible amount of medication per day must also be calculated by weight, since the child should not receive more than 5 mg of nimesulide per 1 kg of his weight per day.

For example, a patient who weighs 16 kg can take up to 80 mg of the active ingredient of Nimulide, which corresponds to 8 ml of suspension. If the child's weight exceeds 40 kilograms, then the dosage of liquid Nimulid is no longer counted by weight, but the medication is given in a dose that is prescribed for adults - 100 mg (10 ml of suspension) twice a day. For such children, the suspension is often replaced with tablets, since it is more convenient to take them than to drink a large volume of sweet medicine.

Overdose

If you take too much liquid Nimulide, you may feel apathetic, nausea, sleepy and other discomfort. If the amount of suspension is significantly exceeded, the risk of increased blood pressure, the development of renal failure, the onset of gastric bleeding or respiratory depression increases. In such a situation, it is important to seek immediate medical attention.

Interaction with other drugs

Nimulide is not recommended to be combined with diuretics, glucocorticoids, anticoagulants and many other drugs. To avoid negative interactions, before using the suspension, be sure to clarify its compatibility with other medications that the patient is taking.

Terms of sale

To buy a suspension in a pharmacy, you must show a prescription from a pediatrician. The price of one bottle varies between 150-230 rubles.

About storage features

Liquid Nimulide should be stored in a dry place out of direct sunlight, where a small child cannot reach the suspension.

The shelf life of the drug is 3 years. If it has expired, it is forbidden to give medicine to babies.

Reviews

There are many good reviews about the use of Nimulid in the form of a suspension in children. In them, mothers confirm the effectiveness of such a medicine to reduce fever and eliminate pain. The drug is also praised for its pleasant taste and ease of use. Only in some patients does the suspension cause allergies or unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms.

Analogs

A substitute for Nimulide can be another drug based on Nimesulide (Nise, Aponil, Nimesil, etc.), however, most of these drugs are produced in a higher dosage, therefore they are not prescribed for children under 12 years of age.

Only Nise and Nimica preparations are presented as dispersible tablets of 50 mg. They dissolve in water and can be used to treat children 2-12 years old.

Instead of Nimulid, other liquid forms (syrup, suspension) of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can also be used:

  • Nurofen for children.
  • Paracetamol.
  • Ibuprofen.
  • Panadol.
  • Maxicold for children.
  • Calpol.
  • Efferalgan.

The action of such drugs is provided by paracetamol or ibuprofen, which are allowed in childhood and are prescribed even to infants. Nevertheless, it is still worth choosing such a replacement for Nimulid together with the attending physician.
